North Sydney Council has released its new draft North Sydney Transport Strategy (NSTS) for public exhibition and feedback.
The NSTS is on its second round of consultation following extensive feedback received during preliminary community consultation in early 2016.
According to the council, this feedback has helped to identify North Sydney’s community public transport priorities, aspirations for the future of North Sydney transport networks, and informed the development of the draft NSTS.
It is also informed by the NSW Government’s A Plan for Growing Sydney and the Long Term Transport Masterplan, which intends to make Sydney more liveable and boost its transportation standards.
The draft NSTS builds on the directions, outcomes and strategies detailed in North Sydney’s Community Strategic Plan 2013 and Ecologically Sustainable Development Best Practice Project 2013.
It creates an over-arching transport planning and management framework for the whole of council.
Once finalised, the council expects the NSTS will be its guiding document for the delivery of its transport planning and management functions, including strategic transport planning, delivery of local transport projects and transport advocacy.
The document’s importance is underscored by big New South Wales government transport projects such as Sydney Metro, the Northern Beaches B-Line and Westconnex, which are all expected to ease Sydney’s traffic congestion, which has been a significant pain-point for local governments and commuters.
The draft NSTS will be on public exhibition for 6 weeks from Thursday 27 April 2017 to Wednesday 7 June 2017.
